Meet Nique, location assistant in The Hague

Nique

“Patients know they have ADHD and with us they get the tools to deal with it.”

Can you explain what your position is and what you do like?

As a location assistant, you basically do a little bit of everything. We make sure that everything at the location keeps running smoothly and that everyone can do their job. We take care of patients as well as colleagues.

Why did you choose to work at ADHDcentraal?

That’s a nice story, though. In 2019, I myself was diagnosed with ADHD at ADHDcentraal. I remember sitting in the waiting room and looking at the location assistant and then thinking, “this is a fun job. Last year I was looking for another job and was reminded of that. I started looking at the ADHDcentraal website for open positions and luckily there was a vacancy for location assistant and it became me!

What does a workday of yours at ADHDcentraal look like?

I always come in early and then I start everything up, check the mailbox, see if there are any specials or cancellations. I also get everything ready for my colleagues and start up the Qb Test. After half an hour, often the first patients come in. I make the patients feel welcome with us. They are sometimes a little nervous, then I reassure them. As a location assistant, I am the link between the practitioner and the patient. Because I have been in the patient’s shoes myself, they can ask me anything. That helps!

As a location assistant, there are days when I am mainly behind the counter and helping patients. I really enjoy the contact with the patients because we have a very exciting target group. There are also so-called back office days. On those days I do the administration. I especially like the combination.

What do you get the most energy from in your work at ADHDcentraal?
What I find very special is the difference you can see in patients when they come in and at the end of treatment. Every time they come to us you see that they are doing a little bit better. You see people flourish and grow. Everything falls into place. Patients know that they have ADHD and we give them the tools to deal with it. That makes them happier people. We really do make a difference for our patients.

What superpower would you like to have that could be useful in your work at ADHDcentraal?

I would like to be invisible, though. I think the biggest challenge of this job is that you are constantly shifting gears. On a diagnostic day, you’re working in all places at the same time. But sometimes I can work from home, and then I really get so much done. That’s really nice!

What would you give people who want to apply for a job at ADHDcentraal?

First of all, do it! You really come into a very warm team. Everyone goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and to help you. I was also very well taken care of when I came to work here. I knew on the first day that I had made the right choice to work here.

Have you become excited about working at ADHDcentraal
