Meet Loek , psychologist in Maastricht

Loek , psychologist in Maastricht

“Everyone is different and there really is room for that at ADHDcentral.”

Can you explain what your position is and what you do like?

As a psychologist, I am primarily involved in providing CBT treatment. I also participate in diagnostics. For example, I take the DIVA and also do a psycho education group.

I especially like the variety at ADHDcentraal. Giving CBT is really customized, it’s very dynamic. Everyone is different and there really is room for that at ADHDcentral. At its core, it revolves around the ADHD, but comorbidities also play a role, which makes the work very challenging and interesting.

Why did you choose to work at ADHDcentral?

I started here right after college because I didn’t really have a concrete idea of what I wanted yet. When ADHDcentraal came along it seemed very fitting.

There is no such thing as the ADHD-er. You learn something new every day here. It doesn’t stand still, so much is still being discovered within this field. Things change quickly and there are many innovations. I grow and move with it. That makes the work very exciting for me.

What does a workday of yours at ADHDcentraal look like?

I have absolutely no standard workdays. I do always start the day in my own room going through my emails and patient messages. Then I start reading up on the first patient of the day. What I do after that varies from day to day.

Do you have an example of a situation where you felt you could really make a difference for the clients of ADHDcentraal?

Overall, I think we make a difference for each patient. They feel seen at ADHDcentral! Just by starting the conversation. Patients see with us that they are not the only ones, which can help tremendously. I find that very nice to see.

What do you get the most energy from in your work at ADHDcentral?

I really enjoy giving the psycho education group, especially because there is a lot of interaction between patients there. But everything about my work actually gives me energy. The diagnosis day is also very nice. That you can guide someone in that and someone feels heard and seen. I like that.

What superpower would you like to have that could be useful in your work at ADHDcentral?

The first thing that comes to mind is that I would love to be able to show them a vision of the future with patients who are really going through it. That ADHD is not necessarily the reason that things don’t work out. But showing them that things can be possible for them.

What would you give people who want to apply for a job at ADHDcentral?

I would recommend stopping by sometime. You never know, just stop by to get a feel for the atmosphere. I really got a good impression of ADHDcentral by already stopping by. Do a coffee talk. You can get a lot out of it. Without having to do anything right away!
