ADHD<\/h2>\n

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and is a, usually, congenital and hereditary disorder, in which fewer neurotransmitters are produced. These are the substances that transmit messages to the brain. This can make it hard to concentrate and make you easily distracted (<\/span>attention problems<\/b>). You may also make ill-considered decisions and act too quickly (<\/span>impulsivity<\/b>). In addition, you may be physically overactive or always feel restless (<\/span>hyperactivity<\/b>).<\/span><\/p>\n

There are all kinds of forms of ADHD; everyone is different and has their own form of ADHD. As you can imagine, ADHD affects multiple areas, including school, work, relationships, substance use (alcohol, drugs, etc.) and the household. Everyone can express this in a different way.<\/span><\/p>\n

For diagnosis and treatment at ADHDcentraal, you need a referral in all cases. We would like to receive a referral letter from your primary care physician or mental health practitioner. It is important, that the referrer refers to ADHDcentraal, and there is a specific referral to specialist mental health care.<\/span><\/p>\n

Treatment<\/h2>\n

<\/b>Fortunately, ADHD can usually be treated effectively. Treatment may consist of a combination of Psycho-education, Medication and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that we use together to best effect.<\/span>
<\/span>Psychoeducation helps you understand what happens with ADHD and what treatment will do to you. The medication will reduce the symptoms making you feel calmer and better able to concentrate. CBT focuses on addressing behavioral patterns and practical skills with a focus on core ADHD symptoms. The goals will be coordinated with you depending on your individual needs and request for help. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
